Becoming the Beloved Community

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream of what he termed the “Beloved Community.” This community is to be one that does not regard race, sex, culture, social or economic status. It is a community where men, women, boys and girls, regardless of status (or non-status) are able to come together as one.

This community acknowledges that every human being is precious in the sight of God and thus invaluable to the Kingdom of God.

It is a community which adheres to the greatest two commandments of the New Testament; namely, to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…” and “to love your neighbor as yourself.” (
